This
type of security protection ensures that the cash stolen in a raid
is marked or stained to prevent the criminal profiting from the
proceeds of crime.
Purpose:
- The objective of these systems is to render stolen notes
worthless to the extent that there is no gain to the criminal.
This is a strong deterrent to committing further similar crimes.
- Recovered cash may produce forensic evidence to assist the
police investigations.
Common Specification for all Indelible Staining and Note Marking Equipment:
When considering the type of equipment to use, you must ensure
that it can achieve the following:
- Indelibly mark notes to achieve instant recognition that
they have been stolen and render them worthless.
- Attract the attention of potential witnesses to a raid in
progress.
Any system to be installed should comply with specification PAS
40, 2002, Class II issued by the British Standards Institute.
Smoke and Dye:
This system, when activated, dyes the banknotes and produces a large
cloud of smoke.
Specification:
- A covert note spoiling device should be placed in each counter
till.
- The device must look as authentic as possible to ensure that
it is taken by or handed to the criminal instinctively.
- The system must be automatically activated to ensure the
safety of the staff.
- The dye pack must be programmed to activate once the criminal
has left the premises. A time delay of at least six seconds
is recommended.
- It is recommended that the dye used is traceable to either
a specific incident, the retailer or a manufacturer.
- All notes that are used in the construction of a dye pack
must be recorded separately and kept in order to assist an
investigation.
- The system used must produce sufficient smoke to attract
attention to the criminal.
