This type of security
protection ensures that the cash stolen in a raid is marked or stained
to prevent the criminal profiting from the proceeds of crime.
Purpose:
- The objective of these systems is to render stolen notes
worthless to the extent that there is no gain to the criminal.
This is a strong
deterrent to committing further similar crimes.
- Recovered cash may
produce forensic evidence to assist the police investigations.
Common Specification for all Indelible Staining and Note Marking
Equipment:
When considering the type of equipment to use, you must ensure
that it can achieve the following:
- Indelibly mark
notes to achieve instant recognition that they have been stolen
and render them worthless.
- Attract the attention of potential witnesses
to a raid in progress.
Any system to be installed should comply
with specification PAS 40, 2002, Class II issued by the British
Standards Institute.
Smoke and Dye:
This system, when activated, dyes the banknotes and produces
a large cloud of smoke.
Specification:
- A covert note spoiling device should be placed
in each counter till.
- The device must look as authentic as possible
to ensure that it is taken
by or handed to the criminal instinctively.
- The system must be automatically
activated to ensure the safety of the
staff.
- The dye pack must be programmed to activate once the criminal
has left the premises. A time delay of at least six seconds is
recommended.
- It
is recommended that the dye used is traceable to either a specific
incident, the retailer or a manufacturer.
- All notes that are used in the construction
of a dye pack must be recorded separately and kept in order
to assist an investigation.
- The system used must produce sufficient smoke
to attract attention to
the criminal.
